Sri Aurobindo Centre Surat has been doing its spiritual work silently and quietly in Surat for more than last 50 years. The main activity has always remained that of assembling in the spiritual atmosphere of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother and strengthening the aspiration of its members in the light of the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo.
For the members, together with prayer and meditation, studying the books of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother is part of their Sadhana. Initially for many years these gatherings were in the form of weekly meetings, which took place in a room specially set apart for this very purpose by one of its members.
As the aspiration of the main workers of the Centre became stronger and stronger and in response to their prayer, The Mother, most graciously, gave her special blessings to this Sri Aurobindo Centre Surat.

After the formation of Sri Aurobindo Society, the Centre affiliated itself with the Society and is at present a Branch of Sri Aurobindo Society.
With the growth of the involvement, dedication, commitment and surrender to the Divine of the members, more and more persons were drawn to the Centre and became regular members and a feeling of belonging to the Divine Family of the Mother and The Master grew. As a result of this natural growth the necessity to have the Centre's own place was felt.
With the necessity, the necessary search and efforts began. In response to the collective aspiration The Divine Mother gave inspiration to one of the members of the Centre to offer permanently a part of her property, a piece of open land, for the new construction of the Centre's Hall. This permanent place is situated at 108 - Adarsha Society, Near Ghod Dod Road, Athwa Lines, Surat - 395001.
Almost every Ashramite that has visited Gujarat from Pondicherry over the years has visited our Centre.
Sri Aurobindo visited Surat in the year 1907 at the time of the historic National Convention of the Congress. He was at Surat from 24th December till 31st December. In the year 2007 we wish to celebrate the Centenary of his visit to Surat.
